Writers Guild-Kenya: Manuscript Polishing Workshop (1 Day)
Do you have a manuscript that’s ready to shine?
This one-day workshop, led by experienced editor, writer, literary critic and University Don Dr. Tom Odhiambo, assisted by other professionals from Writers Guild-Kenya, will equip you with the tools and techniques to elevate your manuscript from good to great.
When? 13th April 2024
Where? Passionist Retreat Centre, Karen.
Time? 8am-5.30pm
How much?
- Ksh. 3,500 for Writers Guild-Kenya Members
- Ksh. 4,500 for Non-Members.
What’s more? All meals provided, and a good time in a peaceful ambience, conducive for your writing.

Workshop Agenda:
Morning Session (9:00 AM – 1:00 PM)
- Welcome & Introductions: Meet the facilitators and fellow writers, discuss your writing goals.
- The Art of Self-Editing: Learn proven strategies for self-evaluating your manuscript, including clarity, consistency, and character development.
- Grammar & Punctuation Masterclass: Brush up on the fundamentals to eliminate errors and enhance readability.
- Dialogue that Sizzles: Craft powerful and engaging dialogue that brings your characters to life.
- Plot Powerhouse: Identify and address plot holes, pacing issues, and ensure a satisfying story arc.
Lunch Break (1:00 PM – 2:00 PM)
Afternoon Session (2:00 PM – 5:00 PM)
- Show, Don’t Tell: Master the art of descriptive writing to immerse your readers in your world.
- Critique & Feedback Exchange: Participate in a supportive workshop environment where you can receive constructive feedback and offer insights on fellow writers’ work. (Optional: Bring a short excerpt for anonymous feedback)
- Publishing Q&A: Writers Guild-Kenya experts answer your burning questions about the publishing landscape in Kenya and beyond.
- Wrap-Up & Resources: Celebrate your achievements, gain valuable resources, and network with fellow writers.
