How fortunate for me that the Sunday sermon was my customized message on prayers. The high pitched priest emphasized his preaching to an extent that I saw my life. The realization of the two main areas that bring down strong Christians when it comes to prayers challenged me.
Actually, if my last week was a movie, the playwright would score high ratings on the charts. It was packed with turns and twists. I knew that I needed prayers to move my mountains. After all everyone knows that no situation is beyond the scope of prayers. Therefore, I called on those friends whom I believed to have more faith than me so that we could pray together. Some were too busy to return my calls, some never picked up and others blocked my calls. I felt so low because the world crushed before me burdening my shoulders and heart. The battle of faith within me was real. I could feel the heat.
I went through the memory verses in my mind but nothing was forthcoming. I did a silent comparison on my problems according to their weights but the feeling of impossible remained constant. I sang along the gospel hits on Hope Tv and Shine Tv. By His grace the song ‘Only You’ by Ada touched me.
‘Only you can do what no man can do. Only you can change any situation. You are unchangeable. You are reliable’ These words are powerful.
Indeed, we all proclaim His super awesome power. We mentally affirm his promises and when things don’t go according to our desire we get confused, worried and desperate. Where is God? Why is He taking long to answer? We ask ourselves, endlessly chocking our faith and getting spiritually fatigued. Patience! We have to wait even in prayers. Our God is able. He says;
To whom will you compare me?
Or who is my equal?” Says the Holy One.
Lift your eyes and look to the heavens:
Who created all these?
He who brings out the starry host one by one,
And calls them each by name.
Because of his great power and mighty strength,
Not one of them is missing (Isaiah 40:25-26).
Therefore, we need to lean on His promises. Keep away from the small whispers that tell us that it is impossible, we have failed, we will never make it and borrow from the scriptures, the word of God in Psalm 145:13 The Lord is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all He has made.
